Steenbok inhabit open scrub and semi‑arid savannas.

They are solitary or found in pairs and feed on grasses and leaves. They rely on camouflage, remaining motionless until a hunter is almost upon them. Male steenbok grow short, straight horns approximately 4 inches long.
